Educating to Engage & Empower

Our Plastic Pollution Education Program is designed to inspire a shift in culture around single-use plastic and waste in general.

Schools are a small community in and of themselves and are a microcosm of the broader community. Consistent feedback from school staff and parents confirm that students are increasingly influencing their family and are leading the change at home.

Many of our presentations, activities and events can also be carried out over online platforms like Zoom.

Plastic Pollution Education Program

The Plastic Pollution Education Program has evolved over many years, thanks to invaluable input from highly qualified and experienced school teachers, scientists, waste managers and community members.

We recognise every school is different with varying levels of knowledge, passion and engagement amongst students and staff on these issues.

This program can be adapted to suit various age groups and year levels incorporating a range of presentations, activities and events. Plastic Pollution Education is for students from Early Learning to Primary, Secondary school and through to Tertiary Education

The Australian Curriculum,
Early Learning Outcomes
& Quality Standards

Our Early Learning sessions link directly to certain Early Learning Years Outcomes and will help your service meet various areas of the National Quality Standards. Our Plastic Pollution Education Program for Primary & Secondary Schools links into and complements various subjects, strands and domains on the Australian Curriculum.

Educate – Engage – Empower

This is the cornerstone of our mission and is the basis for how we create and carry out our work. Imparting knowledge alone will not solve this problem.

Therefore our presentations and activities are designed to engage EVERY student despite their age, social background, or academic ability. We will aim to include and empower students with varying aptitudes, interests, and passions including STEM subjects, language, and the arts.

Educate

Knowledge & Enquiry

Before we can solve a problem we need to have a deep understanding of the problem itself, the scale, the causes, the impacts and the urgency.

Engage

Inspire a Call to Action

It’s vitally important to educate in a way that aims to ENGAGE every student in the room sparking a strong desire to be part of the solution.

Empower

Taking Action

Demonstrating how students can be part of the solution individually and collectively via new behaviours, routines, systems, procedures and through introduced projects and initiatives.

Together, with your class, year group or entire school, we can discuss and co-create a plan that can include long-term projects and initiatives and which will bring powerful, lasting change to your school and community!

It has been a really positive school environment since Plastic Pollution Solutions visited. I have witnessed the impact made on our students and the changes they've been making in their own lives. The litter audit was extremely beneficial because we were able to identify the problem and work towards finding a solution within our school. The changes are being led by the students and it is giving them a sense of responsibility and ownership. For our school leaders it is an opportunity for them to show initiative and be role models for the rest of the school.

Thank you for the wonderful presentation you held for the year 8 Personal Development Day. The students were engaged...and stayed focused for the whole way through your 90 minute presentation...The short videos and slides will help these students learn ways to help our environment within the Gold Coast Community, beaches and even within our own school grounds. I know I left the room wanting to make a difference and I’m sure most of the students also felt that empowerment.

Having Plastic Pollution Solutions come and visit our beachside school to talk to students across K-6 was one of the most engaging and authentic learning activities I've been involved with as a Teacher Librarian. Anthony's relaxed style, highly relevant content, ability to differentiate activities, extensive scientific knowledge, and passion for the ocean all added up to a very successful and memorable experience for our students. I would recommend Plastic Pollution Solutions for any teacher or educator who wants to ignite a love of learning and inquiry in their school.

Thank you so much for coming to Bright P-12 College!!! You have inspired my friends and I so much! Right now we are doing a powerpoint presentation. My friends and I have come up with a little social enterprise called 'Zero Plastic'. We really care about our environment and I someday hope to be just like you!!!! .

The Plastic Pollution Solutions presentation for schools is ultra-informative and full of great insights into human behavior and our effect on the ocean environment. His quest to inform students of the problem with plastic is well researched and supported by excellent photographs and stories about the environment. His interaction with students and great presentation skill really makes learning fun for all.
